Position: Rent Court Organizer

Status: Part-Time(contract July 14-Nov 21,2025)

Location: As directed  

Compensation:  $400 every two weeks via stipend

Anticipated start date: July 14, 2025

Schedule: Tuesday & Thursday 8:30a-3:30p 

Responsibilities

  • Attend relevant trainings

  • Attend rent court hearings as an anonymous court watcher

  • Input data collected from rent court observation

  • Perform other relevant task as directed

  • Educate tenants about their right to counsel 

Outreach 

  • Distribute Right to Counsel flyers at designated locations

  • Attend outreach events as needed 

  • Make outreach calls as directed

Position Requirements

  • Belief in BRU’s mission, vision, and values

  • High school diploma

  • 2-5 years in community organizing (Not required but strongly preferred)

  • Proficient in listening comprehension and effective note-taking including the ability to capture quotes accurately

  • Attention to detail including ability to take down quotes quickly and being able to communicate quickly and effectively with tenants inside the courthouse

  • Competent in written communication, reading comprehension, and mathematics

  • Capable of conducting minor research as required

  • Be able to sit through rent court cases for at least 3-5 hours

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a dynamic environment

  • Ability to use Microsoft Suite and G-Suite for data sheets, word processing, emails, scheduling

  • Must have reliable transportation

  • Resident of Baltimore City Preferred
